The rusty keys have been shined and polished. I am now an expert on polishing with a Dremel.
I've since found out that the black on the keys is iron oxide, which is a good thing! The black is what makes cast iron kitchenware rust proof and non-stick! I've polished them but deliberately left some black marks and stains on them. They look great! The ones where I got carried away and stripped all the black off look a bit characterless. Ah well, I can make them black again by heating- that's a job for another day.
Anyway, I've put them together with some absolutely darling glass hearts, pearls and Swarovski crystals. The hearts are handmade by a lady called Josephine in Devon.
The finished necklaces are really rather nice and I'm very proud of them. Good thing too, as it's taken me days to get them done!
As soon as I take some photos they will be up on my Etsy and Folksy shops... They're not cheap but they're worth it! Some are so lovely I'm not sure I can let them go!!
